Iowa Area Flooding vs. New Orleans Flooding

June 25, 2008

Some observations on the Iowa area floods compared to the New Orleans flood.

A couple questions from The National Review:

Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help
in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal
government hasn’t solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and
trailers) are?

Why isn’t the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago ?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that
failed in Des Moines ?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a “vanilla” Iowa , because that’s the way God wants it?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of
cannibalism?

Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?

If you really want to know what’s wrong with the world we live in today… JUST LOOK AROUND! What’s good for one is not necessarily good for another, it all depends on…

How can we change the world?

May 22, 2008

How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.

 ~Anne Frank

Wherever a man turns he can find someone who needs him.

~Albert Schweitzer

How far that little candle throws his beams!
So shines a good deed in a weary world.

~William Shakespeare

There is no better time than now to change the world. As world citizens, we have access to unparralled technology, and tools for communication. We also have, more than ever, the power to do great harm to our environment.

In fact, our environment has already been harmed by the rapid progress of our societys ability to manipulate the world. Unfortunetly, we have not grown at the same pace spiritually, and we still carelessly destroy our natural habitat, as well as our safety, comfort, and quality of life within our civic centers.

It is our duty now, to use the internet and phones to call our friends and organize ways to actively restore our local environments. This website was created to inspire those who feel they do not know what they can do; to show them that we can change the place we live in now.

This is not about raising funding for some distant future were work will be done. It is about going out tommorow, and doing something to improve conditions where you live. Wether it’s as simple as collecting garbage, or as monumental as confronting lawmakers, we will have COURAGE to do what is neccessary.

By finding leaders in each community, and empowering them with the resources and tools neccessary to organize the people around them, we will begin a process of rapid results. Here in the pages of this blog, those efforts will be documented, and the many things we will all learn from them. It’s like multi level marketing, only what we are selling, we are giving, and what we expect in return is only the increased joy, comfort, and harmony brought by Actively Giving to the Environment.

Teach Your Children Well

May 22, 2008

American children today face many problems that could cripple them for life. Drugs, education and the environment — just to name a few.

But in these times of limited finances, where will our society put its priorities? Unfortunately, the government’s solutions are not always prompt or effective. And while the problems worsen, the remedies become more and more costly.

Parents, however, can take charge of the situation. By giving their children an environmental education, parents can mold a pro-active force to face the challenges that lie ahead.

Teaching your children to be environmentally sensitive can accomplish several things:

–It can instill in them a sense of wonder and honor for the environment, something that will benefit them the rest of their lives. The sooner children get an environmental education the better.

– It means quality time together. Whether you are planning activities or actually studying, the process can bring your family closer together.

– It’s a perfect way to improve your child’s learning skills. By trying different teaching methods and motivators, such as hands-on experiments, reading assignments or contests, you’ll discover which are most effective. Who knows, your teaching skills may improve their performance at school.

– When your children are ready, put them in charge of the household ecology program. It can help teach them responsibility, and maybe even give you a break.

Along those same lines, starting a “family eco fund” through conservation and recycling efforts around the house will directly involve your children in environmental issues. You can teach them the rewards of an environmentally aware lifestyle with this special savings account for their college education or future needs.

Encourage the family to add to the fund with recycling revenue and conservation savings. For example, if the utility bill averages $100 per month, challenge the family to reduce it. Every time the bill is less than the old average, put the savings into the “eco fund.”

For more information on starting your family’s environmental education program, you can write to:

Once you get started, your kids will probably come up with plenty of new ideas. And the whole process may end up continuing your environmental education as well.

May 20, 2008

The “We Get It!” Campaign is a national effort to gather one million signatures on a simple statement by which Christians can show that they are united behind Biblical perspectives on the environment and the poor.

The campaign has been endorsed by a nearly a hundred pastors, Christian leaders, policy-makers, and theologians, as well as a growing host of national and state organizations.

It is conducting outreach across the country to pastors and people in the pews, African-American and Hispanic church leaders, youth, artists, home-schoolers, evangelical scientists, Congressional and state policy-makers, and other Christian leaders.

National Day of Prayer

April 30, 2008

Thursday May 1, 2008 is the National Day of Prayer.

The theme for this year is Prayer -  America’s Strength and Shield”. It is based on the verse from Psalm 28:7 which states: “The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped.”

The National Day of Prayer is a day designated by the prayer Congress as a day when all Americans regardless of faith are asked to come together and pray in their own way. It is held on the first Thursday in May. The “National Day of Prayer” Task Force coordinates many local observances of the National Day of Prayer, however, it is an independent non-profit organization and does not act on behalf of the federal government.

Dr. Ravi Zacharias will help lead this nation in prayer as the 2008 Honorary Chairman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force. Several million people are expected to participate in this call to prayer for our nation, its leaders and citizens.

SIFA Choir Update April 18, 2008

April 20, 2008

April 18, 2008
SIFA Choir Update from Ginny Dye

Sunday night we had the special privilege of having the SIFA Choir perform. While I had been with them in Pennsylvania and seen them rehearse, this was the first full scale concert I saw. WOW! These kids are truly amazing and something you don’t want to miss. I know I have never seen a concert with so much energy, love and life. I smiled, laughed, cried and danced my way through the evening. If possible, I came away even more committed to doing every thing I can to help these 20 kids who dream of being doctors, lawyers, nurses, teachers, accountants, fashion designers, pilots, and so much more. Giving these kids a chance to be all they can be will do more to change Uganda than anything else we could do!

SIFA Choir

I had already fallen in love with all of them. The rest of our group was quickly feeling the same way and stepped in to act as sponsors for most of the group. It takes so little… $25 a month, and a once-a-year $40 school fee is all it takes to give them a home, schooling, and food. Though we provided sponsors for the children in the Choir, there are still 150 kids back in Uganda who are waiting for a new family to love them. Little 10 year old Flora stayed up until midnight Tuesday night coloring pictures of ducks to give to her new Mommy & Daddy (Tom & Laura Fruth), while little Olivia changed tables 3 times at breakfast to make sure there were 3 chairs available so she could sit with her new parents, Peter & Mary Post. For children who have lost their parents to AIDS, the knowledge that they have people who care about them means so very much!

In between our own meetings, we took the kids canoeing, played softball & soccer, and exchanged hundreds of hugs and special moments. Saying good-bye to all of them was incredibly difficult but I know they are going to be a blessing to so many others all across America. They are in Connecticut right now to record their new CD and some videos. You can keep track of their schedule and activities by going to www.SIFAChoir.org.

We weren’t the only ones to fall in love with them. The staff at Airfield 4-H Conference Center was absolutely wonderful and 2 of them also stepped in to sponsor children. You can’t meet these children without loving them!

Meeting the SIFA Choir drove home exactly why My Power Mall exists for all those who met them. Yes, we are a business, but we’re a business that is in existence to make a difference in the world. The SIFA Choir is just the beginning of all we will do, and all those we will help as we move forward. Oh yes… I almost forgot to tell you about the “Grandma Fund”… Barb Pollard and Beth Tielke put their heads together to form this special fund that will go beyond providing the basic needs of Sponsorship. This fund will provide cows, goats and chickens for the orphanage - assuring the kids have meat and milk. It will provide art supplies for budding artists, books that do more than just teach, and so much more. Stay tuned for more details on just how we can ensure the TWCCTW Kids are the best loved kids in Uganda!!

That’s enough for now. I’ll send this to you as soon as I land in Dallas before heading on to Seattle. It’s been a wonderful 16 days but I am ready to be home and dig back in to building the most powerful company possible for all of you!

Fathers over 40 ‘much more likely to have autistic children’

April 16, 2008

LONDON, UK: Children with fathers over the age of 40 have a significantly increased risk of having autism, a study has concluded.

The team of British and American US experts said that children born to men older than 40 had a six times higher risk than those born to men under 30.

They said the study, published in the September 2006 edition of the Archives of General Psychiatry, was further proof that men also had “biological clocks.”
